'To Dean Nemitz, With Gratitude' is theme for IWC Homecoming
It’s homecoming week at Iowa Wesleyan College with events specifically for alumni planned Oct. 11-12.
This year’s homecoming will celebrate the contributions of former Dean Carol Nemitz and her many years of faithful service to the college. The alumni theme is “To Dean Nemitz, With Gratitude.” The full schedule of events is available at www.iwc.edu/homecoming.
Friday, Oct. 11
Division of Alumni: ALU 501 mini-classes — A series of mini-classes will be taught by Iowa Wesleyan College faculty and staff. Topics include: service teaching in Lithuania, IWC in the Roaring 20s, global perspectives via study abroad and sickle cell anemia. All classes will be held in the Howe Student Activity Center.
Dr. Donald A. Gurnett of the University of Iowa will present “The Iowa Space Pioneers: The Legacy of James A. Van Allen” on Friday, at 1 p.m. in the Science Hall Auditorium.

Alumni and Friends Golf Outing — Friday at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club. Call the Alumni Office at 319-385-6215 to register or to participate as a hole sponsor.
All-Alumni Hog Roast: Nemitz Seriously? — “A Very Thorough Roasting of Carol Nemitz” which includes a fundraiser for Nemitz’s campaign for enhanced student life – dinner begins at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Mt. Pleasant Country Club. Please call the Alumni Office at 319-385-6215 for a reservation.
Saturday, Oct. 12
Alumni and Friends 5K Tiger Run — Saturday 8 a.m. outside the Howe Student Activity Center. Contact the Alumni Office at 319-385-6215 to register.
Alumni Board Pancake Breakfast — Saturday, 8-10 a.m. in the Howe Student Activity Center, free will donation. The public is invited.
Alumni and Friends Car Cruz-in — Alumni and friends are invited to bring their classic cars to campus on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Saturday open houses — Campus tours will be offered from 9-10 a.m. starting at the Howe Student Activity Center.
P.E.O. Memory Rooms on the second floor of Old Main will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Harlan-Lincoln House will be open for historical tours from 11 to 1 p.m.
Artist Reception and Dessert Bar — Artist Betty Clark Schmidt’s works will be featured in the P.E.O. Building Art Gallery from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. At noon, members of the Live Poets Society will share their poetry based on Schmidt’s artwork.
Parade — The 2013 homecoming parade will begin on campus at 10:30 a.m. and will continue south on Broadway/Jefferson, turn east on Madison, and north on Main Street to return to campus.
Athletics — Football vs. Crown College, 2 pm. at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex; men’s soccer vs. Greenville College, 1 p.m. at Eastlake Park; women’s soccer vs. Greenville College, 3 p.m. at Eastlake Park
Meet Me at the Skunk — “A New Homecoming Tradition” at Butch’s River Rock Café in Oakland Mills at 6 p.m. Live music with Val & Mal will begin at 7 p.m.
All-Alumni Get-Together — Saturday at 9 p.m. at the Press Box Bar and Grille
