Toft selected as teacher mentor
Christine (Hassenfritz) Toft, who is the daughter of Phil and Mary Hassenfritz of Mt. Pleasant, has been selected as one of 20 teachers in the Davenport Community School District as a mentor in the Teacher Leadership Compensation System, which has been written into Iowa law and all school districts will be implementing in the near future.
The teacher Leadership Compensation program is designed for and compensates top teachers who will be taking on leadership roles to improve instruction and raise student achievement.
The duties of this program include serving as a member of the BSAT, support teacher through coaching, modeling, timely feedback, providing intensive support to new teachers and conduct and support peer reviews.
Toft will be mentoring a new teacher through the Journey to Excellence Program, which encompasses two academic years, after which the new teacher will be prepared to apply for his/her standard teaching license.
Toft is a 2007 graduate of St. Ambrose University with a degree in elementary education and an endorsement in reading and also a middle school endorsement which she received in 2008. She then graduated from Morningside College with her master of arts in teaching: professional educator, with an additional endorsement in gifted education.
She began her career as an educator with the Davenport Community School District at Wood Intermediate in 2008.
