Traffic to change soon on Grand Avenue
The construction season is here.
Warner Engineering, the engineering firm for the Grand Avenue reconstruction project in Mt. Pleasant, has announced that Grand Avenue will be closed from the north side of the Mapleleaf Drive intersection to the south side of the Baker Street intersection during the morning of Monday, March 18.
Construction also will be closing the east two lanes of Grand Avenue from the north side of Baker Street to the south side of Winfield Avenue.
Traffic control will be present, allowing head-to-head traffic south from Winfield Avenue to Baker Street on the west side of Grand Avenue.
The Mapleleaf, Baker and Winfield intersections will remain open at this time. Traffic will be able to travel north from Washington Street to Mapleleaf over the railroad overpass.
Northbound traffic on Grand Avenue will be detoured right onto Mapleleaf and then left onto the frontage road and north on the frontage road to Winfield Avenue and then back to Grand Avenue northbound.
Southbound traffic on Grave Avenue will be detoured south to Baker Street and right on Baker to Cherry Street to Mapleleaf. Traffic then will be detoured left onto Mapleleaf to Grand Avenue.
City workers will be placing detour signs and directions to local businesses. These signs will be in place prior to putting the detour into effect.
The detour will remain in effect until further notice.
These changes, Warner says, have been implemented to attempt to minimize the amount of time Grand Avenue will need to be closed south of Mapleleaf over the railroad pass.
