Henry County’s Emergency Management Office hosted a training exercise for firemen and first responders March 11. Over 50 firefighters and rescue workers, representing Mt. Pleasant, the Henry County Conservation Department, Wayland, Winfield-Mt. Union, Hillsboro, New London, Salem and Keota, attended the exercise. One of the scenarios involved a person trapped in a manure pit and the other was a tractor rollover pinning the driver. Rescue workers are required to take 24 hours of training annually, according to Walt Jackson, Henry County Emergency Management director. The exercise will be repeated March 19. Trainers were from the National Agriculture Training Center in Peosta. Sponsors of the event included Henry County Farm Bureau, Shottenkirk and Dave’s Towing.
