Upcoming blood drives

The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has announced the following upcoming blood drives:

Monday, May 6, 3 to 6:30 p.m.: Faith Lutheran Church community blood drive, fellowship hall, 910 Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant. Donors who last gave blood on March 11 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact Jennifer Lehman at 319-217-8309.

Tuesday, May 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Mt. Pleasant Treatment Center community blood drive, brown room, 1200 E. Washington Street, Mt. Pleasant. Donors who last gave blood on or before March 12 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact Marsha Birdsell at 319-385-9511 ext. 3446.

Tuesday, May 7, 3 to 6:30 p.m.: Winfield Lions community blood drive, Winfield VFW, 116 N. Locust Street. Donors who last gave blood on or before March 12 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact MVRBC at 800-747-5401 ext. 1281.

Thursday, May 9, 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 5:30 p.m.: Alaniz/MetroGroup LLC community blood drive, MVRBC donor bus, 1805 E. Washington Street, Mt. Pleasant. Donors who last gave blood on or before March 14 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact Mike Owens at 319-385-7259 ext. 1071.

Friday, May 10, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Henry County community blood drive, in gym of E3 Center, 1400 E. Washington Street, Mt. Pleasant. Donors who last gave blood on or before March 15 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact MVRBC at 800-747-5401 ext. 1281.

Friday, May 10, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Hy-Vee Mt. Pleasant community blood drive, MVRBC donor bus, 1700 E. Washington Street, Mt. Pleasant. Donors who last gave blood on or before March 15 are eligible. To make an appointment, contact Sue Axsom at 319-385-2266.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 with parental permission form available through www.bloodcenter.org) and weigh more than 110 pounds. A photo I.D. or MVRBC Donor Card is required to donate.

Blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure may be accepted as eligible donors.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to 81 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. A list of area hospitals can be found at http://www.bloodcenter.org/about-us/service-hospitals.aspx.
