Vaughn, Amos named all-district
Mt. Pleasant’s Joey Vaughn has been named first team all-district for Class 3A and Dustin Amos earned second team honors as announced by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA).
Vaughn, a senior, was selected as a shortstop for the Class 3A first team all-Southeast District.
Vaughn had a batting average of .387 and led the team with 18 walks while striking out a team-low seven times in 113 at-bats.
He also had a team-high 42 hits. Six of those hits were doubles and three were triples. He knocked in 20 runs and was also a threat on the basepaths, going 16-for-16 in stolen bases on the season.
Vaughn was also named first team all-conference this season.
Amos, a sophomore, was named a second team all-district pitcher by the IHSBCA.
He went 6-4 on the mound on the season and had 62 2/3 innings pitched. He finished the season with 44 strikeouts and only 15 walks, and he had an ERA of 2.12.
At the plate, Amos had 31 hits this season for the Panthers, including seven doubles, in 95 at-bats.
Amos was also named second team all-conference this season.


Actually Cam Engberg finished with .387 average. Joey finished with .372. Great job by Joey and the rest of the team. Season ended too soon.
