Vernon Davis, 80, Marshalltown, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.
Visitation was held on Friday, Aug. 23, from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m., at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services followed the visitation at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for the arrangements.
He was born on Nov. 30, 1932, in Jefferson County to Taney Eugene and Vera Mable Sutton Davis. On October 11, 1952, he married Norma Richards. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955. In 1965, the couple moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he operated his own full service gas station for two years. Upon returning to Marshalltown in 1967, he went to work for Cessford Construction and worked his way over the years to become the vice president.
He was a member of the Richland Masonic Lodge #38, American Legion Post #46, an honorary member of the Iowa Transportation Museum and past president of APAI. His interests included golfing, his two old cars, NASCAR and traveling.
He was survived by his wife; daughters, Karen (Dan) Young and Kristie (Tim) Clements; and son, Randy Davis; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother,Virgil Davis.
