Volleyball, cross-country and men’s soccer open seasons
The Iowa Wesleyan College volleyball team went 1-2 in their first action of the 2013 season. The Tigers took part in the Monmouth Invitational on Saturday, defeating Robert Morris University-Springfield (25-15, 25-19, 25-23) and falling to both Lincoln Christian College (26-24, 25-16, 25-23) and Monmouth College (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-4).
The IWC cross-country teams competed at the Mt. Mercy Mustang Gallop on Friday evening to start their 2013 campaign. The Tigers did not record team scores in either the women's or men's races. Bre Derynck was the Tigers' lone runner in the women's 4k race, taking 45th (21:37).
Jacob Ayers was the top finisher for the IWC men, running the 5k course in 19:42 (47th). He was followed closely by Michael Klostermann, who crossed the line in 20:08 (54th) for the Tigers.
Iowa Wesleyan College men’s soccer fell, 3-1, in its season opener against Culver-Stockton College at East Lake Park on Saturday.
Jason Gonzalez had the Tigers’ only goal.
IWC is now 0-1, while Culver-Stockton improves to 1-0.
