Volleyball regional pairings released
The Mt. Pleasant volleyball team will open Class 4A Region 8 play on Monday, Oct. 28, when it hosts Keokuk in the quarterfinals.
The winner of Mt. Pleasant’s game advances to play No. 2 Solon at Solon in the semifinals.
The other side of the Region 8 bracket includes Oskaloosa, Fairfield and Clear Creek-Amana.
Washington and Ft. Madison are a part of Region 7.
In Class 1A Region 7 are New London and WACO.
The Warriors are the first Henry County team to start regionals. They play their first-round game against Burlington Notre Dame in Burlington on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The winner of that game advances to take on No. 4 New London in New London on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in a quarterfinal match. The Tigers have a first-round bye.
Other teams in the bracket are Calamus-Wheatland, Rivermont Collegiate, Lone Tree, Cedar Valley Christian, Springville, Central City, No. 9 Lisbon, Midland, Prince of Peace, Easton Valley and Marquette Catholic.
Winfield-Mt. Union will be playing in Region 8. Like New London, the Wolves have a first-round bye, and they will open postseason play on Oct. 29. They host the winner of the game between Keota and Sigourney on Oct. 22.
If the Wolves win their first two matches, they could find themselves in a regional final rematch against No. 1 Holy Trinity — W-MU fell to the Crusaders in the final last year. That match was played at Mt. Pleasant, and Mt. Pleasant will host the Region 8 final again this season.
Other teams in Region 8 include Harmony, Maharishi, Seymour, Moravia, Wayne, Moulton-Udell, North Mahaska, Melcher-Dallas, Tri-County and Twin Cedars.
