W-MU boys’ golf places third
DURANT — The Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ golf team traveled Tuesday to the Wildcat Invite in Durant at the Wahkonsa Country Club.
“We played in terrible, terrible weather,” Coach Dave Therme said.
Nevertheless, the Wolves managed to place third in the 10-team, 18-hole tournament.
Host team Durant won the tournament with a score of 339. Columbus was second at 345 and W-MU scored 351.
The Wolves were led by Jake Edwards, who completed the course in 84 strokes. He was followed by Brody Heying, who shot 86.
Klayton Booth scored 88, and Sam Jennings shot a 98 to round out the team score. Kolt Rossiter and Zack Davis finished the course in 100 and 102 strokes, respectively.
Edwards finished seventh overall, and Heying was 10th; both received medals. The medalist at the tournament was a golfer from Durant, who shot a 77 on the par-72 course.
The boys are off the rest of the week; the W-MU girls will host West Burlington/Notre Dame in an 18-hole meet tomorrow (Friday). Both the boys’ and girls’ teams will play Mediapolis on Monday.
