W-MU boys to scrimmage Saturday after girls’ game
WINFIELD — The Winfield–Mt. Union girls’ basketball team hosts West Liberty on Saturday, Nov. 30, with the JV game starting at 2 p.m. and the varsity game to follow.
At 6 p.m., the boys’ basketball team will host West Burlington in a JV/V Hall of Pride scrimmage.
The Hall of Pride Challenge is a program that started four years ago. Participating schools are allowed to play a scrimmage game by performing a community service project. The Hall of Pride scrimmage is allowed to be played just like a real game, except it does not count on the state record.
The W-MU project will involve a trip to Sunrise Terrace. Band and choir ensembles will perform for the residents prior to lunch. Junior and senior basketball players from both the boys’ and girls’ teams will assist with lunch and eat with the residents. Following lunch, they will play games and visit with residents.
Regular admission will be charged for the girls’ game on Saturday.
Admission to the boys’ game, the Hall of Pride scrimmage, will be an item for MOPS food pantry and/or a free-will donation. Free-will donations will help with a required $250 donation to the Hall of Pride. Any additional money collected will be donated to MOPS food pantry.
