WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union girls fell behind early in Tuesday night’s home game against Wapello, and a second-half advantage wasn’t enough to make up for the first two periods in a 44-31 loss.
The Wolves could only muster six points in the first period and six in the second, which allowed the Arrows to run out to a 29-12 halftime lead.
W-MU was able to fight back a bit in the third quarter, winning the period 13-9 to cut the lead to 38-25 after three quarters.
Neither team could get much going in a rare low-scoring fourth quarter. Both squads scored six points in the period and Wapello secured the 13-point victory.
Karley Schlee led the Wolves with nine points, three assists and three steals in the loss. Pearl Krieger-Coble had six points.
Lauren Jamison and Hannah Mathews finished with four points apiece. Allie McArtor and Lexee Hartsock scored three points each. Sophie Kongable scored two points and Molly Jennings led the way with six rebounds.
W-MU fell to 4-9 on the year. The Wolves will travel to Highland for a game on Friday, Jan. 13, at 6 p.m.
