W-MU girls’ golf takes fifth at SEISC meetBoys’ team defeates Mediapolis, falls to Notre Dame/West Burlington in triangular
Grace Edwards was named second team all-conference and the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ golf team placed fifth of seven teams at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division tournament at Sheaffer Golf Course on Monday.
The boys’ team took to the course on Tuesday, competing against Notre Dame/West Burlington and Mediapolis at Flint Hills Golf Course in Burlington.
In the girls’ tournament, Edwards completed the course in 103 strokes to lead the Wolves. Lauren Baker shot a 112, followed by Shelby Therme, who scored 115. Both Baker and Therme were named all-conference honorable mention for their scores.
Katie Benson shot a 137 to round out the team score. Hanna Koontz shot a 141 and Nicole Escher scored 145.
Wapello won the tournament with a score of 398, and Mediapolis was the runner up with a score of 432.
Lone Tree was next (446), followed by Columbus (464), W-MU (467), Louisa-Muscatine (479) and Iowa Mennonite (544).
The boys’ team golfed in Burlington on Tuesday, scoring 176 as a team. They finished ahead of Mediapolis (184), but behind the host team, Notre Dame/West Burlington, by just a few strokes (172).
Jake Edwards and Klayton Booth led the Wolves, each scoring 42.
Sam Jennings shot a 44 and Brody Heying scored 48 to complete the team score. Zach Davis shot a 49 and Kolt Rossiter scored 50.
Next up for the W-MU boys is their sectional meet at New London tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m.
The girls headed back to Sheaffer to play in the Holy Trinity Catholic quadrangular today (Thursday) at 1 p.m.
