W-MU takes third at Central Lee Invite
DONNELLSON — The Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ cross-country team, led by Kollin Lintz in ninth place overall, took third as a team at the Central Lee Invitational on Tuesday.
Lintz completed the 5K course in 17:21. Teammate Levi Giese was right behind him in 11th place with a time of 17:22.
Gavin Bencze placed 18th in a time of 17:55, and Kyler Smith crossed the line in 18:20 for 28th place.
Kohlton Heinzel finished fifth for the Wolves in 18:26.
Also running varsity for W-MU was Levi Watson-Hewitt (19:25) and Tristan Klopfenstein (19:39).
A couple of the W-MU runners missed the meet due to illness.
Louisa-Muscatine won the meet with 32 points and Van Buren took second with 75.
W-MU scored 96 points, followed by Danville/New London (110), Keokuk (126), Holy Trinity (167), Central Lee (171), West Hancock (179), Illini West (197) and Harmony (209).
Illini West won the girls’ side of the meet with 62 points.
The Wolves didn’t have enough runners for a girls’ team score, and neither WACO team had enough runners for a team score.
Grace Edwards ran a 4K time of 18:29 for W-MU in the girls’ race, placing 23rd overall. Steffanie Watson-Hewitt was 35th in 19:16.
For WACO, Cheyenne Sedlacek finished in 26th place with a time of 18:42, and Michaela Shaffer was 41st in 21:22.
On the boys’ side, WACO was led by Dillon Douglas, who placed 36th in 18:51. Mitchell Shaffer was 64th in 21:14.
