W-MU volleyball falls in five
KALONA — The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team forced five sets but ultimately fell to Iowa Mennonite in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division match on Tuesday.
The Class 1A No. 7 Wolves took the first set from IMS, 25-22, but fell in the next two, 25-20 and 25-23.
The teams battled in the fourth until the Wolves managed to end it at 29-27, but IMS came back in the final set to take the game, 15-5, and the match.
Erica Robison led the Wolves on the night with 13 kills, and Shelby Therme had nine.
Taylor Rodgers had a team-high 18 assists, followed by Brooke Jennings with 15.
Rodgers also went 19-for-20 serving with four aces. Layne Davis was 19-for-19.
Robison and Therme served two aces apiece, while Jennings and Sam Jamison each served one.
Therme put up three blocks for the Wolves and led the team with 19 digs. Darby Harris had 12 digs for W-MU.
The Wolves are now 9-6 on the season and 2-1 in the SEISC North. They continue a tough stretch on their schedule with Thursday’s home match against Class 3A No. 13 Mediapolis.
