WACO basketball sweeps Wapello
WAYLAND — Both WACO teams scored more than 60 points and claimed wins over Wapello on Tuesday. The girls’ team won its game by a score of 63-45, while the boys topped Wapello by a score of 66-60 in overtime.
In the girls’ game, the Warriors had run to a 26-16 lead by halftime and added another 37 point after halftime to put the game out of reach.
Aaliyah Brown scored a game-high 27 points for WACO. Jaelyn Unternahrer was also in double figures with 15 points.
In the boys’ game, WACO had a two-point lead at halftime, 30-28, and neither team was able to pull away in the second half.
Regulation ended with a 57-57 tie, sending the teams into an extra period. WACO was able to limit the Indians to just three points in overtime and claim the win with nine points of their own.
Jackson Roth paced WACO with 22 points; Bryce Achen added 17 and Dylan Carlson scored 16 points.
The WACO boys are now 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the SEISC North, and the girls are 5-7 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
Up next for the Warriors is the Friday night girls/boys doubleheader at Winfield-Mt. Union.
