WAYLAND — The WACO basketball teams hosted Danville in an SEISC doubleheader on Tuesday night. The girls’ team lost, 48-19, and the boys’ team fell, 76-29.
The girls hung close in a low-scoring first quarter which saw the Bears take a 4-3 lead after the first eight minutes.
Danville was able to stretch their lead to nine, at 16-7 before halftime, and run away with it in the second half with an offensive explosion.
Kiana Miller led the way for WACO. She had eight points on the day, seven of which came in the second half.
Kristen Conley scored four points in the loss. Nadiyah Brown had three. Halle Kissell had two and Ashleigh Hallett finished with one.
The boys’ team went down by 10 points at 17-7 after one period and could never answer a stacked Danville offense.
Conner Eichelberger was the only Warrior to reach double digits on the day. He finished with 11 points.
Beau Beckler had five points in the loss. Colton Horak, Jarren Unternahrer and Nik Coble had three points apiece, and Matthew Leichty and Jacob Fried had two points each.
The WACO girls fell to 3-7 on the season and the boys dropped to 1-10. The boys picked up their first victory earlier this month with a 54-31 defeat of Cardinal.
The two teams will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 13. They will be at Holy Trinity for a doubleheader, starting at 6 p.m.
