WACO girls defeat IMS, fall to Sigourney

WAYLAND — The WACO basketball girls’ basketball team split their two games this weekend, defeating Iowa Mennonite, 38-31, on the road Friday night before falling, 45-23, to Sigourney at home on Saturday.
The Warriors won the first three quarters on Friday night, holding an 18-14 lead at halftime and a 27-19 lead after three quarters. IMS cut the lead by one point in the fourth but the Warriors held on for the seven-point win.
The Warrior girls were unable to stop the Sigourney offense on Saturday. The Savages outscored the Warriors, 28-10, in the first half and stretched their lead in the second half for a 22-point win.
Halle Kissell scored eight points in the loss. Kristen Conley had seven and Ashleigh Hallett, Kiana Miller, Clara Schmitz and Kasey Sutton finished with two apiece.
The WACO girls moved to 4-14 after the two games. They will be at West Burlington tonight for a road game starting at 6 p.m.
