WAYLAND — With a win from Jennie Greene in the 200-meter dash and quite a few other top-six finishes, the WACO girls’ track and field team claimed second place of seven teams at the WACO Relays in Wayland on Tuesday night.

The Winfield-Mt. Union girls had five gold medals and took third place overall.

Mediapolis won the meet with 179 points, followed by WACO (106), W-MU (88), Highland (77), Van Buren (54), Cardinal (51) and Maharishi (10).

Lou Krieger-Coen took home a pair of first-place finishes for the Wolves, winning both the shot put (33-1 1/4) and the discus (109-1).

The Wolves also dominated the hurdle events, getting top finishes from Cassie Kingery in the 100-meter hurdles (15.52 seconds) and from Anna Crawford in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.57). The W-MU shuttle hurdle team also won with its time of 1:08.57.

Taking second for the Wolves was Paige Breon in the 100-meter dash (13.56), and the sprint medley team also claimed a silver medal (2:02.87).

For WACO, Greene’s time of 28.03 in the 200 was good enough for the team’s lone event win. However, the Warriors took second in a number of events.

Gaby Wagler was the runner-up in the 800 with a time of 2:42.71, while Rosemary Skriver took silver in the high jump (4-8) and Cheyenne Sedlacek was second in the 3,000 (13:33.26).

The Warriors were also second in the shuttle hurdle (1:18.40) and in the 4x200-meter relay (1:57.34).

Next up for the WACO and W-MU track and field teams is the co-ed Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division meet, which is in Columbus tonight (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m.
