WACO volleyball falls in five
PACKWOOD — The WACO volleyball team fought hard but fell in five sets to host Pekin in Thursday night’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division contest.
The Panthers won game one, 25-17, and the teams traded sets from there. WACO took game two, 25-18, but fell in game three, 25-15. The fourth game went to the Warriors by a score of 26-24, but Pekin sealed the win with a 15-12 victory in game five.
The loss capped a long night for WACO, in which the freshman/sophomore team lost in three sets and the JV team won in three sets.
“It was tough to lose the fifth one after such a long night, but for us to force five sets was huge,” Coach Jay Coble said. “We didn’t just roll over. I thought we handled ourselves pretty well.”
Rosemary Skriver had 10 kills for WACO and Ashlyn Hammen had 14 assists. Katelyn White came up with 34 digs, followed by Erika Leichty with 29.
Bailey Graber served five aces and Leah McElhinney served three. Kalicia Miller put up five blocks.
WACO is now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the SEISC North. The Warriors host Wapello on Thursday. The freshmen/sophomore game starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by JV and varsity.
