Warriors, Wolves, Tigers run at Mepo
MEDIAPOLIS — Like the Winfield-Mt. Union boys’ track and field team, the W-MU girls claimed two first-place finishes at the Dave Aamodt Relays in Mediapolis on Tuesday.
The boys finished with titles in the 4x400-meter relay and the distance medley, while the girls had top finishes in a pair of individual events.
The Wolves’ Lou Krieger-Coen took home a gold and silver medal. She won discus with a throw of 103-1 and was the runner-up in shot put with a mark of 33-1.
The other first-place finish for the W-MU girls’ was Emily Mathews in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.92 seconds.
The WACO girls and boys and New London boys also competed at Mediapolis on Tuesday.
The WACO girls’ shuttle hurdle team of Jalyssa Jepson, McKenna White, Kasey Suton and Erika Leichty took first place at the meet with a time of 1:17.87.
The top finishes for the WACO boys came from the 4x100 team, shuttle hurdle team and Dylan Carlson in the 110-meter high hurdles.
The 4x100 team of Brett Hesseltine, Bryce Achen, Cornell Hulme and Carlson took silver in a time of 45.56 seconds.
The same four athletes competed in the shuttle hurdle, crossing the line in a time of 1:02.89 for another second-place finish.
Carlson ran the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.81 seconds.
On the WACO girls’ side, Suton was second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:18.47, and WACO was also the runner up in two relays: Angel Frier, Rosemary Skriver, Jennie Greene and Katelyn White ran the 4x100 in 54.95, and the 4x200 in 1:58.35.
Karlie Wade claimed a silver medal for the W-MU girls in the long jump with a mark of 15-10.
The best finish for the New London boys came from Riley Grogan’s throw of 109-3 in the discus, good enough for third place.

WACO and W-MU track compete again today; the Warriors go to Washington and the Wolves are at Danville. All three teams — WACO, W-MU and New London — will be at WACO on Monday, April 14.
