Washington upsets Solon at state softball tournament
FT. DODGE — The Washington softball team pulled off a big upset at the state tournament on Tuesday, beating Class 4A No. 3 Solon by a score of 6-1.
Washington finished the game with 12 hits and Solon only had five hits. Washington Head Softball Coach Angie Shrader said this was a big accomplishment for her team, because Solon had a team batting average at 0.436.
“It was kind of nice to shut them down,” Shrader said. “I was excited for the girls because they deserved it. We came out and accomplished our task and did what we needed to.”
Today she reminded the girls of their main objective: to bring home the state title.
“At practice I told them to forget the Solon game,” Shrader said. “They had last night to celebrate. Now it’s time for them to focus on the next game.”
Washington will play Carlisle Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
