Wayland Lions Club meets
Brian Pattyson reports the Wayland Lions Club met on Tuesday evening Feb. 19, at the Wayland Community Room.
First Vice-President Marianne Pattyson called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Mike Hulme offered the invocation.
Pattyson acknowledged the evening guest speaker Amy Martin and recognized Alice Hofstetler for providing the delicious meal. Nine members and one guest were in attendance.
Minutes of the previous meeting and treasurer’s report were approved. Membership Chair Brian Pattyson updated members on a proposed meeting at which members would sponsor potential new members and a sample invitation letter was reviewed.
Chairman Pattyson noted and provided copies of recent publications in the Wayland Reporter and the Winfield Beacon/Wayland News that highlighted Lions activities, locally, nationally and internationally demonstrating the Lions Logo “We serve.”
It was noted that April 10, would mark the 55th anniversary of the Wayland Lions Club started by Charter Member Dr. J. Glen Widmer. A 55th anniversary patch is being ordered to adorn the club banner which occupies the wall during all meetings.
Pattyson noted that volunteers will be needed to help with the club’s annual Easter egg hunt to be held Saturday, March 30. A $200 donation to WACO Prom Night was approved.
Special guest speaker for the evening was RN Amy Martin who is employed by Washington County Hospital as their diabetes and chronic disease program coordinator.
Martin’s interesting and enlightening presentation highlighted the status of diabetes as an epidemic which affects children and adults.
Diabetes is a leading cause of blindness. Lions are actively involved giving assistance with sight programs.
Martin announced a free diabetes healthfest to be held at Washington County Hospital on Wednesday, March 27, from 3 to 6 p.m.
