The Wayland Lions Club held their September meeting on Tuesday the 17th at the Wayland Community Center at 6:30 p.m.
President Marianne Pattyson called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Gail Simmering offered the Invocation with special remembrance of John Swartzendruber, a Wayland Lion for 48 years.
Membership Chair Brian Pattyson noted final preparations for next month’s 55th year anniversary meeting on Oct. 15 at the Wayland Community Center for invited guests.
Wayland Lions annual Rose Sale would culminate with delivery of roses on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Lion Jay Meyer outlined an October visit to Crawfordsville Elementary to host the Lions KidSight Program which is instrumental in detecting potential sight problems at an early age. This testing is conducted “free” by Lions Clubs and will be administered this year by Jay Meyer, Stan Meyer, Russ Yoder and Tim Egli. Date and time to be scheduled.
The Wayland Club enjoyed a presentation by Washington YMCA CED Beck Harkema, which emphasized being a good role model, building relationships and giving back to the community.

Most importantly, you do not have to be a member of the YMCA to participate in “Y” programs to be better able to SERVE family, friends, and community.
