WCA holds county-wide high school vocal concert
The Washington Concert Association (WCA) has scheduled a county-wide high school vocal concert for Tuesday, April 29, at the Washington Community Theater .
Mixed choirs from the Washington County schools of Highland, Mid-Prairie and Washington will have the opportunity to work with Dr. Jon Hurty at each of their schools during the school day. This special experience will be compliments of the WCA.
The evening program will include songs from each choir under the direction of each school’s music director. The finale will include all three choirs with approximately 170 students performing together under Dr. Hurty’s direction. This will be a valuable learning experience for the students and will provide county residents with the opportunity to hear the music of county choral students.
Each year a few music students get to participate in an honor choir. This program will give all choir participants the experience of working with a guest director and singing with a large mixed choir.
Dr. Hurty is professor of and director of choral activities at Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. and conducts the Handel Oratorio Society at Augustana. He is active as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Asia.
The school music directors are Highland – Jennifer Wagner; Mid-Prairie – Collette McClellan; and Washington – Michael Jewell.
The concert for the public will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Washington Community Theater. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
This is the last of the eight programs presented by the Washington Concert Association this year. Season tickets for next year may be purchased at the door.
