Wednesday morning blaze
What is left of a Wayland building full of cars was still smoldering and spitting smoke after a two-and-a-half hour long firefight Wednesday morning. Located across from Prime Diner on IA-78, fire officials are still waiting to hear from fire marshals as to what exactly started the blaze at the structure. No one was reportedly inside when calls of a fire at the building were given at roughly 5:40 a.m., Wednesday morning, and no firefighters were injured while trying to subdue the flames. At least six vehicles that were inside or near the building at the time of the fire were already being labeled as total losses by officials on the scene. Highway 78 was temporarily closed down while firefighters were battling the blaze, but has since reopened to traffic. The incident is still being investigated.
