West Burlington tops New London baseball
WEST BURLINGTON — The New London baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision on the West Burlington baseball diamond on Monday night, falling to 6-12 on the season and 5-7 in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division.
The Tigers kept the game close early, allowing just three runs over the first four innings and putting one on the board themselves.
However, the Falcons broke open the game with a four-run fifth inning, and the Tigers wouldn’t be able to do any more damage in the contest.
West Burlington barely out-hit the Tigers, 9-8, and the Falcons also had more errors, 4-2. The Tigers just couldn’t string enough hits together to bring their runners home.
New London offense was led by Dalton Dudley, who went 2-for-3 and stole a base, and Tyler Shinkle, who was also 2-for-3.
Quincy Porter had a double and scored the team’s only run.
Other hits came from Matayo Christianer, Hunter Moeller and Devon Smyth. Smyth also had a steal.
Porter was on the mound for the Tigers and took the loss. He gave up nine hits and issued two walks for seven runs (five earned) in six innings. He struck out five batters.
The Tigers return home tonight to host Danville, starting with the JV game at 5:30 p.m., and then plays Mediapolis in a game at Community Field in Burlington on Wednesday.
That game will also be a varsity and JV doubleheader, starting with the varsity game at 5 p.m.
