Wilma L. Swanson
Wilma L. Swanson 93, Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lockridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Swigart officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockridge Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the Murphy Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Lockridge Baptist Church or Gideon’s or to the Lockridge Fire and Rescue in her memory.

She was born on Feb. 5, 1921, in Hillsboro, and was the daughter of Frank and Clara Lee Spray. She graduated from Fairfield High School and married Raymond C. Swanson on March 24, 1942. He preceded her in death.
She worked as a cook at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield and later at the Lockridge School, retiring in 1983. She was a 60 year member of the Lockridge Baptist Church serving in many offices and was a member of the Gideon’s also serving in many offices.
She is survived by her children, Larry Swanson of New London, Gloria (Larry) Messer and Robert (Penny) Swanson all of Mt. Pleasant, and Richard (Kim) Swanson of Lockridge; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grand-daughter; two sisters, Erma Spray and Lucille Fillinger; and one step-grandchild.
