WINFIELD — The fate of the Winfield VFW building will be decided at a meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the VFW building.
Members of the VFW building corporation and Winfield Mayor Chris Finnell will meet to discuss the building’s future.
At the Feb. 11 city council meeting, Rob Quinn, president of the VFW building corporation, informed the council that the Winfield VFW Post and Auxiliary Post had lost their charters and been dissolved. The building corporation would like to turn the building over to the city, as long as the current non-profit groups that are meeting there for free are still able to do so.
The VFW building corporation and the city council have expressed interest in forming a committee to ensure a smooth transition of the building.
Currently the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H are able to use the building at no charge. The Winfield Lions Club and Congregate Meals also rely on use of the building for their activities.
