MEDIAPOLIS — The Winfield-Mt. Union and Mediapolis girls’ basketball teams traded 20-point quarters in a SEISC North Division showdown on Tuesday night.
The Wolves began the game with a 20-6 run but Mediapolis was able to take back the lead in the second quarter and pull away in the third en route to a 64-57 win.
Trailing, 20-6, after the first quarter, Mediapolis put their offense in hyper drive. The Bullettes outscored W-MU, 20-8 in the second and 23-8 in the third.
W-MU trailed 49-36 after three periods. The Wolves finally found their offense again in the fourth quarter but a 21-15 advantage in the final period wasn’t enough to take back the lead.
Hannah Matthews had a huge game, hitting three points and scoring a team-high 21 points in the loss.
Lexee Hartsock had 13 points on the night. Pearl Krieger-Coble scored 11. Karley Schlee had nine. Kara Wade scored two and Allie McArtor had one.
The Wolves fell to 4-6 on the year with the loss. They’ll host Lone Tree on Friday, Jan. 6, at 6 p.m.
