ELDON — The only Henry County team to get a win in this weekend’s SEISC girls’ shootout was the only team who played for the losing division.
Winfield-Mt. Union cruised to a 64-31 win for the North Division on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to propel the division as the South won the day, 5-4.
The Wolves scored 16 points in each of the first two quarters to pull away from Cardinal early. W-MU doubled up the Comets, 32-16, before halftime.
W-MU continued to dominate over the next two quarters and took the second half, 32-15, to come away with an impressive 33-point victory.
Hannah Buffington led the Wolves with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win. Lexee Hartsock and Pearl Krieger-Coble each had 10 points and seven rebounds to give the Wolves three double-digit scorers.
Hannah Mathews filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds and four steals. Karley Schlee had seven points. Sophie Kongable scored six. Kara Wade had four. Liana Sweezer had three, and the duo of Molly Jennings and Allie McArtor had one apiece.
The Wolves moved to 7-15 on the year and will host their first postseason game of the year. W-MU will play Henry County rival WACO on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m.
