Wolves scrimmage against Columbus
WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union football team played in a scrimmage against Columbus on Friday night in preparation for the start of the season this weekend.
“We graded ourselves at about a B-,” Coach Scott McCarty said. “We did well on some things, but there were some glaring weaknesses we need to shore up. On offense, we ran the option pretty well and ... Max Fricke did nice job at quarterback. On defense, we were in the position to make plays but need to tackle better — we were aggessive, we just didn’t always finish the play.”
Each team had about 30 snaps on offense in the scimmage. Special teams did not get on the field.
The Wolves open the football season on Friday when they host Wapello, starting at 7 p.m.
“We’ve got some work to do this week, but the scimmage gave us a great measuring stick before we go into our first game,” McCarty said.
