Wolves sweep SEISC contest
WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team picked up its first Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division win in a sweep of Louisa-Muscatine on Thursday night: 25-14, 25-7 and 25-11.
The Falcons took W-MU to a 7-7 tie in the first set before the Wolves were able to distance themselves for the win.
The Class 1A No. 7 Wolves then ran away with the second set and claimed a sweep with another big win in the third set.
“We did a good job running what we wanted to do on offense,” W-MU Coach Dave Pieart said after the match. “It would be nice to be more consistent — we started slow, and I’d like to get a faster start — but our passing and offense were (strong) tonight.”
Erica Robison put down seven kills to lead the team in that category. Emily Mathews had three blocks.
Brooke Jennings had 13 assists, while Shelby Therme went 14-for-14 serving with four aces and had a team-high 10 digs.
The match was one of just four home events for the Wolves, who are now 6-2 overall and 1-0 in the SEISC North.
They’re back on the road Thursday, playing another conference game against Columbus. The freshman/sophomore game starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by JV and varsity.
