IWC soccer plays at MacMurray

Oct 22, 2013

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s and women’s soccer teams went toe-to-toe with MacMurray College on Saturday on the road.

The Tigers and Highlanders battled back and forth, and after 90 minutes plus two overtimes, the teams came away with a 1-1 tie.

The Highlanders struck first to take a 1-0 lead.

IWC evened the score, however, when Bo Vitale, a Mt. Pleasant graduate, found the back of the net on a breakaway. It was Vitale's fourth goal of the season.

Caleb Winston had a strong game in the net for the Tigers to keep them in the game. Winston made 12 saves against the Highlanders.

The Tigers took 16 shots on Saturday, while the Highlanders got 24 shots off.

The tie gives the Tigers a 0-13-1 record on the year and puts them at 0-5-1 in the conference.

IWC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when it hosts Westminster College. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. at East Lake Park.

The IWC women’s soccer team was beat 4-0 by MacMurray College on Saturday.

The loss drops the Tigers to 1-11 overall and 0-6 in the SLIAC.

MacMurray scored two goals in each half to defeat the Tigers.

IWC took seven shots, putting four on goal but the Highlanders’ goalkeeper didn’t let any by, handing the Tigers the shutout.

Iowa Wesleyan’s Caitlin O’Neil allowed four goals while making three saves on the day.

The women’s team also returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when they will host Westminster College at East Lake Park, starting at 3 p.m.
