Feb 16, 2018

Henry County Master Gardeners present the 12th Annual Spring Symposium. The symposium will be held on Saturday, March 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. The event is open to all gardeners and offers something for everyone.

The morning keynote, “The Hosta Garden, Birthplace of Hostaholics,” will be presented by Master Gardener Jay McWhirter. The afternoon keynote speaker will be Jim Nau, from the Ball Horticultural Company, discussing “Stories on the Plants You Love.”

As always, there will be a variety of breakout sessions to choose from. This year’s topics include ongoing water quality efforts at Lake Geode, butterflies, alternatives to hostas for shade, honeybees, what is new in herbaceous plants, long season organic vegetable gardening, edible landscaping, ash alternatives, planting for pollinators, identifying prairie plants, gardening as we age, as well as feeding, improving and caring for your soil.

The Henry County Master Gardeners will again lead the ever popular “Make and Take” session where 25 participants will construct a flower storage container.

The cost of the symposium includes lunch. Registrations and fees must be returned to the Henry County Extension office at 127 N. Main, Mt. Pleasant by Feb. 23. Participation is limited. There are no refunds on registrations and no late registrations will be accepted.

Forms and information are available on the Henry County Extension website,, or at the Extension office.
