It won’t be too long until football fans are back at Mapleleaf Athletic complex for another fall of action on the gridiron as both Iowa Wesleyan and Mt. Pleasant get set to open up at home in less than a month.

IW will be entering their first year as an official full time NCAA division 3 school and will look to celebrate with a few more wins in 2018.

The Tigers will open their season with an interstate showdown with Cornell College on Sept. 1, which will be the first of two night games. Both non-conference games, the Cornell home game and a road trip to Eureka on Sept. 8, will take place at 7 p.m. All conference games will either be day games, starting at noon or 1 p.m.

It may sound cliche to say the Upper Midwest Athletic Complex is up for grabs this year, but that’s completely appropriate considering what happened this offseason. Defending conference champion Eureka moved out of the UMAC to join the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) as an affiliate member, bumping the UMAC number to nine teams.

The Tigers will still play all the same teams as they did last season, however. Cornell was their lone non-conference game in 2017, and they’ll still play the Red Devils in the second week despite the game being out of conference.

The Eureka game will be the first of three straight road contests. IW will take on Westminster, a team it lost to in overtime, in their conference opener on Sept. 15.

IW will play both of the teams it defeated last year in back to back weeks. The Tigers will travel to the University of Minnesota-Morris on Sept. 22, and return home for a game against Crown College.

The annual homecoming game will be the first game of the October schedule. IW will take on Martin Luther for homecoming this year, hosting them on Oct. 6. The Tigers fell 42-20 in their game at Martin Luther last season.

IW will close the season out with four tough games, all against teams who defeated them last year. The Tigers will receive a bye week on Oct. 14, and they’ll need it as they take on the top two returning UMAC teams from last year. IW will play at MacMurray on Oct. 20 and host the College of Saint Scholastica on Oct. 27.

The November schedule has two games on it this season. IW will host Greenville on Nov. 3, and end their season in St. Paul with a contest at the University of Northwestern on No. 10.

Below is the full IW football schedule. Conference games are marked with an asterisk and home games are in bold.
