It’s been a while since a soccer game has taken place at East Lake Park. The field hasn’t seen much action since the Mt. Pleasant home schedule ended in late May, but we’re just over a month away from the first home game of the year for Iowa Wesleyan.

The Tiger women will lead things off at East Lake this fall. IW will host their first game on Aug. 28, when Faith Baptist Bible College rolls into Mt. Pleasant. The Tigers will be looking for a little revenge in that game, as Faith Baptist defeated IW 4-2 in last year’s game.

IW will start the year off with two home non-conference games. The second will be against Alverno College on Sept. 2. After that game, the Tigers will close the month out with five-straight home games and won’t return to East Lake until their final non-conference game against Lincoln Christian on Oct. 1.

The Tigers will host five conference games this year and play four on the road. Their first conference game is their Sept. 29 showdown at Greenville. They will travel to Westminster, Fontbonne and Spalding in October.

Their first home conference game will be against Eureka College on Oct. 3. The Tigers smoked Eureka 12-0 last season for one of their three wins, and the only victory against a SLIAC opponent.

Last season, the SLIAC was dominated by Webster University, who went 9-0 in the regular season and went on to win the conference tournament as the top seed.

Other tournament teams were Greenville, Westminster and Fontbonne, all of which went 7-2 in the regular season. Fontbonne got the second seed and made it to the conference championship, falling to Webster 1-0.

Webster is the only remaining tournament team who will visit East Lake this fall. The Tigers will travel to play Greenville, Westminster and Fontbonne.

The final game of the year will be at Spalding University on Oct. 27. The Tigers will need to improve on their ninth-place finish in conference last year if they want to play in the SLIAC tournament. This will be the first year IW is eligible to play in the SLIAC tournament since the University became an official full NCAA member this summer.
