The Mt. Pleasant football season is just two weeks away. The Panthers gave fans a lot of hope last year with a 6-3 record and that means the hype for the new season is as high as ever.

The Panthers will jump into their district schedule in late September. They’ll start the season with four non-district games before playing through a five-game district schedule that includes all other Southeast Conference teams and Solon.

Mt. Pleasant starts the season at home with a game against Clear Creek-Amana. The Panthers played at CCA last season, defeating them 14-7.

The Panthers will hit the road for perhaps their toughest game of the year in the second week of the season. Mt. Pleasant will play at Pella, which is a team coming off a state championship appearance in 2017.

Homecoming this season will be a non-district game. The Panthers will host Central Lee for an early homecoming game in week three.

Mt. Pleasant will play yet another home game in week four, making it three out of four non-district games being played at Mapleleaf.

The script is flipped a little bit when the Panthers hit their district schedule. The Panthers have just two district games and three games on the road.

The first two district games of the year are rematches of Panther blowout wins in 2017. Mt. Pleasant will play Fairfield on the road on Sept. 21 and Keokuk at home on Sept. 28.

Mt. Pleasant shut Fairfield out on the road last season, skunking the Trojans 27-0. They took out Keokuk 49-13 in their final home game.

The Panthers have back-to-back road games to open up the October schedule. They’ll head to district-favorite Solon on Oct. 5 and play an up-and-coming Ft. Madison team on Oct. 12. Mt. Pleasant lost to Solon 33-0 last season but ran through Ft. Madison 44-16.

The final game of the year may play a big time roll in the district race. The Panthers will host Washington in a rematch of their closest contest last season. Washington sweated out a 16-14 win over Mt. Pleasant in Washington in 2017.
