The 2017 season was a magical one for New London football. The Tigers played their home games at a brand-new field after a complete overhaul to the complex in the offseason and earned a 6-3 record and an at-large bid to the Class A playoffs.

The 2018 Tigers will take their talents to the eight-man football field. They’re one the most intriguing teams in Class 8-Man as they enter a whole new style of football as one of the district favorites.

New London will have five home games and four road games in 2018. They’ll also only play two teams that were on the schedule last season, as the district features three teams that have come over from Class A last season.

The Tigers will play their first eight-man game at home, hosting H-L-V (Hardwick-Ladora-Victor) in a non-district game. After that, the Tigers will travel to Moravia for another non-district game before opening up the district schedule in September.

District play will begin with a game against a fellow Henry County team, the WACO Warriors. The Tigers and Warriors will play each other on Sept. 7, and it’s one of two home games against Henry County foes for the Tigers.

New London will play at Lone Tree on Sept. 14. The Lions are one of the other favorites in the district, which makes it a marquee game early on.

The Tigers will return home for games against Tri-County and Winfield-Mt. Union on Sept. 21 and Sept. 28. That stretch is the only home back-to-back on the schedule for New London.

New London’s game against W-MU will be their second home contest against the Wolves in two years. The Tigers won last year’s 11-man game 44-0 to close out the regular season.

The Tigers will play back-to-back road games on Oct. 5. They’ll take on Iowa Valley and English Valleys on Oct. 5 and Oct. 12.

The final game of the year could have playoff implications. The Tigers will host Montezuma in a rematch of an 11-man game last season, in which the Tigers won 36-20.
