Main Street Mt. Pleasant is kicking off the summer with a duo event Tuesday, May 29: Wings in the Spring and Market on Main.

Wings in the Spring is returning for its second year, with last year’s champion Bobby Singleton serving up wings to defend his title.

As at least 10 contestants compete to win over the stomachs of their peers, craft beers will be served from area breweries. Wings are all-you-can-taste for a fee or all-you-can-taste plus two drink tickets.

Contestants will bring their own grill — or a fryer if they prefer — and cook their wings in Central Park. Anyone interested in joining the competition can contact the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance.

Earlier that evening, Market on Main kicks off with veteran vendors and new alike. Last year, over 20 different vendors sold their homemade items throughout the summer. Market on Main runs every Tuesday from now until Oct. 2.

Each Tuesday market this summer will feature kids’ activities such as scavenger hunts, cooking demonstrations and watermelon and sweet corn tastings and even yoga in the park.

“We had a gentleman last year who split his haustas and had all kinds of beautiful haustas for sale. He was only there one day,” Main Street Director Lisa Oetken said, explaining the different kind of items vendors can sell and buyers can find at the market. Last year, there were also licensed vendors who came out and set up massage tables.

To be a vendor at Market on Main, contact Lisa Oetken at the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance beforehand, or come out any market day. There is a daily fee to set up in the square or vendors can pay for the season. Vendors cannot set up before 3 p.m. on market days. There will be reserved parking for vendors on the south side of Main Street.

There is a discount for youth groups and nonprofits who are trying to raise funds for their organizations.

“We encourage people just to try us out,” Oetken added. “The first night a lot of times I don’t charge (vendors) to let them get a feel of our market.”

Market on Main is 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wings in the Spring will follow from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The band “The Boys” will be playing their modern country music starting around 6 p.m.

Market on Main is sponsored by Two Rivers Bank and Trust.
