Four electricians from Access Energy Cooperative in Mt. Pleasant left for Nahunta, Ga. on Monday to help with Hurricane Irma relief.

Tony Brown, Richard Clark, Kurt Lowenberg and Jon Trumpold joined 43 other people from 14 electric coops across the state of Iowa to help restore power for Georgia rural electric cooperative members affected by the storm.

The electric line crews met in Mt. Pleasant on Sunday, Sept. 10, to prepare to travel together. They were given safety instructions by Safety Director at the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives John Dvorak that included advice on how to handle environmental conditions and how to deal with creatures like crocodiles and scorpions.

“We’re just going down to help the restoration to try to get peoples’ lives back in order,” Access Energy General Manager Kevin Wheeler said.

The crew is expected back in about two weeks. There is no set return date.
