Albert Eugene “A.J.” Jacobs, 71, Burlington, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Burlington Care Center.

Funeral services for will be 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Mixon officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the time of service.

Memorials have been established for Burlington Care Center and Great River Hospice.

Born July 13, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry F. and Esther Wasson Jacobs. On Dec.23, 1968, he married Cyndia Johnson . She preceded him in death.

He attended Burlington High School and worked at National Research Bureau then G.E., retiring in 2003 with 34 years of service. He was captain of the Fire Squad Club in junior high in 1959. In 1984, through G.E. he attended the Iowa State University in Ames for Certified Basic Fire Brigade training.

He enjoyed country and blue grass music, classic and vintage car shows, watching TV, vacation travels with his wife and NASCAR.

He and his wife were members of First United Church of Christ.

Survivors include a sister, Clara Jacobs of Burlington; and a brother, Lloyd (Janet Russell) Jacobs of New London.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and half-brother, Bernard Jacobs.
