A high speed chase that began near Fairfield on Thursday ended in Mt. Pleasant with the arrest of the driver.

Adrian Scott, of Altoona, was arrested Thursday, August 2, after leading officers on a high speed chase. According to police reports, the incident began at about 5:30 p.m., when Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy Mark Miller noticed two cars speeding while traveling east on Highway 34. Miller called for assistance. Lt. Colin Smith, of the Fairfield Police Department, joined the pursuit near the 210 exit west of Fairfield, where one of the vehicles pulled over, Scott’s vehicle did not. Miller stayed with the driver who pulled over as Smith continued to pursue Scott. The elusive vehicle reached speeds greater than 100 mph as it attempted to flee law enforcement.

Smith radioed for help, and was joined by another Jefferson County deputy and three Iowa State Patrol cars. The fleeing vehicle managed to evade three sets of stop sticks that the state patrol laid to puncture its tires. Finally, the vehicle exited Highway 34 when it pulled into a gas station in Mt. Pleasant. Smith estimated that 10 law enforcement vehicles surrounded the fleeing car in the gas station.

Scott was arrested and charged with eluding, speeding, and no valid driver’s license.

The driver of the other car that was pulled over near exit 210 was issued a speeding ticket.
