FAIRFIELD — Jennifer Anderson, who had been a longtime Fairfield Community School District board member, won Tuesday’s special election by a landslide.

Anderson, who ran for re-election for one of three four-year terms in September, lost; but she doubled back and ran in the special election, snagging former school board President Phil Miller’s vacant seat. Anderson will finish the two years remaining on Miller’s term.

“I am extremely happy to be back on the board and anxious to work again for the community. I am grateful for all of the support the community showed me during this past election,” Anderson said.

Tuesday, voters turned out at precincts throughout the district, and Anderson reeled in a whopping 494 votes, according to unofficial results from the Jefferson County Auditor’s Office.

Ben Picard came in second with 135 total votes. Pulling in 97 total votes, acting school board member Ryan Kurka came in third, while Michael Lane won a total of 84 votes.

Anderson has served on the board for several years. Her most recent stint was for eight consecutive years. During Thursday’s candidate forum, she said that she wanted to stay on the board to see through the recent changes.

“We are in the best financial condition we have been in the last two-decades, and it’s taken a lot of work to get there,” she said. “We have put in reductions that we need to follow through on. We have put in refinements to delivering our product, which is education. I want to continue monitoring those closely so that they do increase student achievement. We have a good system and I hope to continue to work with this board to make it better.”
