ArtRageous kicks off Burlington Civic Music Association’s 89th season

Aug 27, 2018

BURLINGTON — ArtRageous will open the Burlington Civic Music Association’s 89th season of artistry on the river. The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, 200 Front St., Burlington.

ArtRageous dances and sings while fellow artists brush stroke on gigantic moving blank canvases, turning their performance into an interactive journey of visual and performing arts. The seed for ArtRageous began in the 1980s in Vancouver, when a troupe of performers decided they wanted to see the world. Together, they started the All and Everything Theater, a nonprofit children’s theater focusing on street theater and life-size Bunraku puppetry.

In the late 1980s on Christmas Day, their theater building that they built from the ground up burned to the ground with all their props and puppets. Instead of packing it in, they created a new act called “The Pink Flamingos.” This music-based troupe performed worldwide at more than 2,000 events for the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Steve Forbes and Gen. Colin Powell.

More recently, this group decided to go back to their roots and share their passion with the world as ArtRageous. Their current show focuses on the things they believe in and everything that got them to this place: art, music, theater, singing, dancing and audience interaction.

Tickets may be purchased through the Burlington Civic Music by calling 319-752-0336, or on Ticketmaster. Tickets also will be available at Memorial Auditorium the night of the show.

Besides their evening performance, ArtRageous also will provide a free hourlong performance for area students the same day as their shows. The student performance begins at 1 p.m. at Burlington Memorial Auditorium. Adults must be accompanied by a student to attend.
