Bender, Bown place second in SEISC cross-country meet

WINFIELD — The Southeast Iowa SuperConference cross-country meet was held in Winfield on Thursday. The hosting Wolves placed top five in both the boys’ race and the girls’ competition.

The W-MU boys had two top-six finishers to place third with 116 points. The girls placed fifth with 153 points. Pekin won both events, taking the boys’ event with 63 points and the girls’ race with 49 points.

The W-MU boys were led by Brody Barton, who continued his stellar year with a second-place finish of 17:01.54. Jarod Kadel was sixth with a time of 17:19.76.

Asa Gipple placed 22nd in 18:17.91. Dane Weezer placed 38th in 19:00.24. Jacob Kongable placed 50th in 19:33.38. Tristan Kauffman was 55th in 19:52.04, and Bryant Holtkamp finished 68th in 20:35.98.

The WACO boys didn’t have enough runners to score. John Skriver led the Warriors with a 34th-place finish of 18:53.60. Tanner Conwell crossed the line in 73rd place with a time of 20:51.23. Joe Edeker placed 87th in 21:38.30.

New London’s Lexi Brown led the Danville-New London girls to a second place finish with 64 points. Brown placed second in the race, crossing the line in 19:44.08.

Danviile-New London had three runners place in the top five. Addy Parrott was third in 19:58.80, and Alyssa Pfadenhauer was fifth in 20:15.28.

Pearl Krieger-Coble led the Wolves with a fourth place finish. She came across the line in 20:04.67. Cecelia Hemsworth gave the Wolves another top-15 finish with a 12th-place 21:22.81.

Isabella Mertens and Whitney Vantiger placed 44th and 45th respectively. Mertens finished in 24:33.27 and Vantiger crossed the line in 24:39.07. Fiona Sparrow placed 56th in 26:03.61.

WACO’s Makenzie Shelman ran the race in 30:07.39 for 72nd place. The Warrior girls did not have enough runners to place as a team.
