Bernadine E. Hite, 86, West Burlington, died Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the New London Nursing and Rehab Center

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, at Elliott Chapel, New London. The Rev. Rod Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Burlington. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18 from noon until 6 p.m. at the chapel. The family will be present for visitation one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. A memorial has been established to the New London Christian Church.

She was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Stockton, Ill., and was the daughter of Clyde and Manilla Inman Carpenter. She married George R. Hite on Feb. 26, 1945. He preceded her in death.

She worked in production at Sylvania, retiring after 15 years. She was a 1945 graduate of Stockton High School. She attended the New London Christian Church, was a member of the Burlington VFW Post 10102 Auxiliary, and loved doing crafts, playing bingo, musicals and movies.

She is survived by one son, Jerry (Sherry) Hite of Danville; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Lyman (Anna) Carpenter of Manteca, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one grandson; and two sisters, Gertrude Tegle and Jeanette Whites.
