Mar 28, 2018

The TranZed Institute is holding a “Beyond Poverty” workshop on Friday, April 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Muscatine Community Schools Administration Office at 2900 Mulberry Ave. in Muscatine.

This workshop, taught by Frank Kros, president of the TranZed Institute, will teach participants the specific impact of poverty on the developing brain, the outcomes of that damage in the classroom and community and interventions that can be used to overcome poverty’s effects.

Specific, research-based strategies for combating the negative impact of poverty on learning will be introduced for infants, preschool and school-aged children.

A second workshop, “The New IQ?,” will follow from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Here, participants will learn what constitutes an executive function skill and where these thinking processes happen in the brain. “The Top 7 Skills for School and Life Success” will be provided with practical tools for identifying and assessing executive function abilities in children and students.

A variety of exercises and techniques will be introduced to directly teach the Top 7 Skills to children at every developmental level, preschool through college.

Workshops are sponsored by Iowa State University Extension Office and are free of charge.

To register, email Dana@iastate.edu. Registration deadline is March 30.
