Bonnie Jean Taeger Riley, 88, of New London, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at her home.


The funeral service for Mrs. Bonnie Riley will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Pastor Kathleen Moore officiating. Burial will follow the service at Burge Cemetery, rural New London. Visitation will be at the chapel Monday beginning at 4:00 with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.


Memorials have been established for New London Fire and Rescue; Dover Museum and New London United Methodist Church.

She was born August 1, 1929 in Des Moines County to David and Esther Rose Hemmeye Taeger. She graduated from New London High School in 1949. On June 20, 1954, she married Phil William Riley at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington. He died January 23, 1987.


She worked for Kresge, Brown Lynch Scott, New London Glove Factory, the telephone company, Sylvania and retired from Motorola in 1992, where she worked as an inspector for 18 years. She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church and a former member of Oak Street Baptist Church.


For many years she baked cakes for people including President Truman; she enjoyed reading, playing Old Maid and Dominos with her grandson, and watching reality shows and the cooking channels.


Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters: Leona Pfadenhauer, Betty Taeger and Janet Boyd; and two brothers: Melbourne and Wayne. Survivors include three daughters: Gale Riley, Alice Riley, and Carol Riley; and one grandson, David Ackles all of New London.
