The Mt. Pleasant girls’ golf team scored 203 during their meet against an incomplete Keokuk team at Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.

Haley Booton was the medalist with a score of 48, followed by Elle Schleisman’s score of 50.

Courtney Mabeus shot a 51 for the Panthers.

Both Brianne Holtkamp and Emily Cox finished the course in 54 strokes, and Ally Lowe scored a 69.

“We lowered our team total by three strokes from (Monday) night at Burlington, which showed team improvement,” Coach Jim Kelly said. “Haley (Booton) shooting her 48 was a very good score, as she really showed to be consistent with her play.

“Elle is right there, ready to break 50 with back-to-back good nine-hole scores in two nights,” he added. “As a team we need to get four individual scores in the 40s to be very competitive in team play, and we have girls that are capable.”

In Burlington on Monday night, the Panthers placed second in a triangular against the host team and Muscatine.

Burlington scored 196 for the win, followed by Mt. Pleasant with 206 and Muscatine with 213.

Mabeus led the team at that meet with a score of 49, followed by Schleisman and Booton, each of whom shot a 51. Holtkmap was next with a 55, followed by Cox, 57, and Lowe, 85.

Burlington’s Samantha Smith was the medalist at the triangular with a score of 44.

Muscatine was led by runner-up medalist Anna Manjoine.

On Monday, Kelly was not disappointed by the girls’ performances.

“Our score of 206 was a great way to start the season with our young team,” he said. “We just hope to keep getting better as the season progresses.”

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team also golfed Monday, competing against Williamsburg and Center Point-Urbana in Williamsburg.

Again, the Panthers finished in the middle of the triangular, scoring 162 — they were behind Williamsburg (159), but defeated Center Point-Urbana (200).

Williamsburg’s Corbin Blythe and Mt. Pleasant’s Kiley Miller each finished the course in a meet-low 37 strokes, but Blythe was named medalist after a tiebreaker. Miller took runner-up honors.

Kyle Kauffman also came in under 40 for the Panthers, shooting a 39. Quinn Daniel scored 40, followed by William Kinney with a 46.

Jacob Smith shot a 51 for Mt. Pleasant, and Jordon Phomsouvandara scored 55.

Center Point-Urbana was led by Jon Krogmann’s score of 42.

Next up for the Mt. Pleasant boys’ golf team will be a home meet against Washington and Ft. Madison on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The girls’ team hosts Washington on Monday, April 15, at 4 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Golf and County Club.
